About NIIAM

National Innovation Institute of Additive Manufacturing (NIIAM) was established on 23rd December 2016. It was founded by 5 leading universities in additive manufacturing, including Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beihang University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Tsinghua University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and 13 renowned companies in additive manufacturing machines, materials, components and software development.

NIIAM takes a leading role in additive manufacturing technology development and prioritizes its effort on common and key technologies. By promoting both indigenous innovation and technology integration, it brings technological breakthroughs to the industry and forges a comprehensive innovation value chain. NIIAM also encourages technology commercialization through partnership with industrial technology innovation consortiums to lead the development of additive manufacturing industry and ultimately promote transformation and upgrading of Chinese manufacturing sector.

Structured as public-private partnership, NIIAM incorporates a company and an alliance, holding together China’s academia, industry and government departments to innovate and accelerate additive manufacturing industry development. The former refers to its preparation and operation body, National Institute Corporation of Additive Manufacturing, Xi’an (NICAM). The later (the alliance) refers to National Industrial Technology Innovation Strategy Alliance of Additive Manufacturing (3D printing).

The Alliance membership makes up an important part of NIIAM. It homes a wide range of organizations with the same vision to advance the additive manufacturing industry in China. We collaborate with our membership to advance additive manufacturing technology development, adoption, commercialization and education.
